A “blunder” that is not an isolated case. Difficult to measure precisely the extent of damage. But tonight, an update of the database of signatures McAfee has caused the quarantine file SVCHOST.EXE (one of the pillars of Windows).

This file has been identified as a virus (W32/wecorl.a). A “false positive” that caused the crash PCs that have received this update and inability to reboot, users find themselves systematically against a blue screen “of death” (Blue Screen of Death).

Only computers running Windows XP SP3 have been victims of this anomaly. Given the late hour, it is mainly the computers overseas who have been affected by this mishap (the PC in France, themselves, have good a priori update) (1). McAfee has removed the offending sign just hours after the discovery of the problem and promptly issued fact sheets to address the problem.

The solution to those affected, through downloading a patch and reboot in safe mode affected machines in order to run it from a CD or USB stick. The fix is downloadable here.

Toyota’s first official to speak since the recall of some 4.5 million cars off the mark Nippon, vice president Shinichi Sasaki reiterated the group’s apology for the inconvenience caused to its customers.

AFP – Japanese auto giant Toyota, which had to recall millions of cars worldwide due to faulty accelerator pedal, denied Tuesday that he sacrificed the legendary quality of its products to more quickly become number one worldwide.

During a press conference, the first by a top official of Toyota in Japan since the outbreak of the crisis, the vice-president Shinichi Sasaki reiterated the apology on the group against motorists affected.

“Owners of recalled vehicles and to all our customers worldwide, we offer our sincere apologies for the trouble caused,” said Sasaki at Toyota headquarters in Nagoya, central Japan.

He however failed to bow before the cameras, as do employers typically Japanese to express their contrition.

The vice-president of Toyota has refuted criticism that the manufacturer, went number one worldwide in 2008, would have sacrificed the legendary quality of its cars to more quickly this consecration.

“I do not think the expansion of overseas production has affected the quality in any way whatsoever,” he said.

He acknowledged that the delay between the announcement of the recall, last week, and the first steps taken to correct the defect, Monday night was long. “In this case, we considered a priority issue a warning, even at the risk of confusion,” said Sasaki.

“Ideally, we would have liked to provide an explanation sooner. I apologize on behalf of the management for the delay,” he said.

Toyota recalled last week nearly 4.5 million vehicles in North America, Europe and China due to an accelerator pedal which, when improperly designed, may remain stuck in the down position. Production and sales of eight models affected by this defect have been suspended in North America, an unprecedented step.

After a night of negotiations on the conditions of termination, employees working in stores for liquidation of Pier Import released the CEO and general manager of the company since they were heard Monday night.

Reuters – Some employees of Pier Import included two leaders of the group on the night of Monday to Tuesday at company headquarters near Paris, to obtain better conditions of dismissal, have announced their representatives.

They were released Tuesday morning the CEO Sonia Ben Behe and CEO Gerard Démaret their offices Villepinte (Seine-Saint-Denis) after a general meeting where the employees have decided to continue the fight in other forms.

The group of furniture and decoration was placed into receivership last September, leading the fermteture 25 stores and 140 dismissals.

“We are awaiting a meeting with the shareholder. The stores will continue action and a strike was decided until Wednesday night at least,” he said on i> Télé Yann Drink, committee secretary Corporate Pier Import.

“For now the benefits that are proposed under the social plan are always at least, that is to say (…) one months salary for an employee who has five years
seniority, “Has he said.

The employees demanded a half month’s salary per year of seniority.

If they do not get satisfaction by Wednesday evening, “actions may become radicalized,” he warned Yann Drink.

The action of employees has been terminated by the Minister of Industry, Christian Estrosi, who “can not be any real negotiations when there is violence.”

With the crisis, the kidnappings of business executives have increased in France.

In January, four executives of a company from Swedish metal band Akers, Fraisse (Loire), were selected over 24 hours by employees who have finally succeeded on their benefits
redundancy and redeployment.

Christian Estrosi Tuesday advocated solutions “on a case by case” for employees.

2009 closes slowly but surely. It’s time for fake “good year! “On TV running full afternoon before 15d. It is also a time for resolutions to the con that we will do more after January 15, although one juror otherwise. And it’s also time to say it looks forward to 2010. And there was even 10 good reasons why …

1. To forget 2009 and Michael Jackson that never ceases to die, but not really: once and for all MJ, RIP. Shavings thereby.

2. To see (and understand?) Last season of Lost: it will finally give a damn what the polar bear on a tropical island if Jacob is half-brother hidden in Regina.

3. To marvel at the forthcoming World Cup football in June: the first in Africa, France wins, Thierry Henry scored the winning goal in the ass, and everyone wears a t-shirt “I love Domenech.

4. To see the remake Johnny Hallyday Stade de France: it’s not that he wants to, but was so afraid to take full teeth for months if we were to make a Michael …

5. To hear well lourdeau “2009, year of the chick” especially since it was fairly true. And smoothly migrate to “2010, a year Peace”. How is it worse?

6. To see Jean Sarkozy to head the UMP, democratically-si-si, and announcing a Lip Dub of Aznavour “I already saw” Together, everything becomes possible.

7. To discover the already famous new Apple tablet that will change the world: yes, yes, Steve Jobs said when you see … That should connect you to the Internet from everywhere, to feed the entire planet, and stop the tsunami. Powerful what.

8. To revel in a year full of promises cinema: one month of January with a new Clint Eastwood and a new Cohen Brothers can be a great year. Although there is also the debut of the cinema Lagaffe. Too bad, it was going well.

9. Quitting smoking at last for the 6th time in 6 years.

10. To see the new version of Topito and say “my God, what a really great site, if only I had the idea to create such, my life would be successful” it just so.

And for you, what are your reasons to spend in 2010?

Here are today the last article of the series about my recent vacation. The title is catchy, but I actually stayed in France for the last post. This is the last by the force of things, because we then visited Narbonne and the Hérault, but my camera gave up the ghost just after visiting this park.

After visiting Carcassonne, we spent an afternoon in a full Australian Park Surrounding the medieval city. We saw kangaroos, ostriches and events around Australia.

Our favorite of the day is the meeting of Nano, a small kangaroo born 2 months earlier and weighing just 1.7 kilograms.

1. The physical trade: it is often forgotten that before the P2P or even the Internet era (mid 90s), we already traded files, games, music: the tape and disk were materials suitable for this type of exchange “from hand to hand. Today, the means of physical exchange are diverse: USB, CD ROM, DVD ROM, hard drive, SD Card, Compact Flash … Their common thread? All these carriers have seen their prices soar in favor of a tax intended to bail out of “having rights”. Your blank CDs do serve to store personal photos? The majors do not care: as, give them reason and amortize your investment by sharing your MP3s and other divX through it.

2. Streaming: even if the majors to ensure grain, even if Luc Besson and Frederic Lefebvre streaming stigmatize as evil incarnate, Youtube, DailyMotion or Vimeo yet packed with a wide range of video and music freely available. Some tools to download all this material have emerged: Streamget allows you to save any video from a streaming site, ClipToMP3 proposes to create lists of downloadable MP3 from YouTube and Dailymotion, and Clickster proposes the same thing from Shoutcast and MySpace.

3. The ISP provides a dynamic IP means any computer or network connected to the Internet has an IP address assigned by their ISP. Today, in most cases, this IP address is fixed (in particular Free and cable operators). But some ISPs such as Orange continue to provide a dynamic IP address, ie IP address fluctuating. But the text of the bill Creation and Internet is clear on this point: he plans to identify “pirates” from their IP address. If this changes every 24 hours, the collection is much more complex (and for other reasons too).

4. The hosts file (or “direct download”): Rapidshare, Megaupload, Sendspace, Mediafire … Based in the world, these sites are mostly able to host files of 100 megabytes of manipulation could not be more simple, just find a link to search and what to click. If this is a film, a series of ten links should suffice. These links exchanged on numerous blogs and forums are easy to find: for example, the case “Megaupload Welcome to the Husband” refers to more than 30,000 sites on Google.

5. The servers enterprise archive: this server is virtually in any business. However, if poorly secured (as is too often the case), it can be detected by software designed for (a sniffer) and run as an area of storage, such as an FTP account.

6. The exchange forums which are accessed by co-option existed for many years, this type of forum is closed and no valid registration of a new member that he has been invited by another member. Exchanges can be made via a private server, download direct or servers enterprise archive.

7. The peer-to-peer encrypted, in response to various laws against P2P download, secure networks have been created on which it is impossible to collect users’ IP addresses. Since these data are encrypted, it is anyway also impossible to know a priori the title and content of the files exchanged. These networks called “third generation” are completely anonymous and call such ANts or MUTE.

8. The encrypted networks: designed in the same spirit that encrypted P2P networks, they are called Freenet or Darknet and no longer content to P2P, but at the same time offering solutions to web and email 100% secure. For the time being relatively slow performance of such a network would literally explode with the passage of the law HADOPI.

9. Newsgroups: less familiar to the general public newsgroups are forums most often pay for the exchange of files at very high speed. Giganews is one of the best known of them and offers an unlimited download, encrypted and modular (10 € / month for 35 GB of download). With this service, does not touch does not suddenly be at a more problematic of “piracy” organized on the Internet? Indeed, we find that users would pay a monthly subscription to download at will. Yet the very principle of a “global license” is removed immediately by the lobbying of French majors (the view of Norway is different).

10. The encrypted proxies: a proxy server is a computer whose function is to relay requests between a client and a server. Some of these servers are called “anonymous”: they are capable of transforming your IP address to an anonymous address. So you have a secure, encrypted connection between your computer and the Internet. The Swedish Relakks.com is a perfect example of this type of service. Count 5 € per month or 45 € per year for profit.

11. The public WiFi networks or secured bad: Unfortunately it is accessible to everyone to see the extent of securing a WiFi network. Your laptop and your mobile phone (if not too old) are able to tell you in seconds if the wireless networks in your area are safe or not. Install yourself in a MacDonalds and you can enjoy a proper network, though probably a bit too slow to download. And about your neighbor who innocently address configured in its box WEP, I am sure you have the kindness to show rather how to configure WPA.

12. Download XDCC on IRC: XDCC refers to a method of file sharing via an IRC bot. The files are usually large and are downloadable via the DCC protocol. This method of downloading see its popularity grow in recent times, including the costs of newsgroups: indeed, XDCC servers are often hosted by extremely fast connections, exceeding the 100 Mbit / s.

13. Seedboxes: A seedbox is a kind of server, dedicated exclusively to download bittorrent and equipped with a broadband connection. The server is responsible for recovering your files via BitTorrent, then you can retrieve them in direct download. With such a server, you are more dependent on constraints of your ISP and the download will be even more secure. The rental price of such a server depends exclusively on the storage capacity that you want: allow about $ 1 per GB per month. Two services among others: wewillhostit.com and seedboxhosting.com.
